Methodist Health System Commits to Well-Being of Employees
Creates Executive-Level Position to Oversee Wellness Program
Demonstrating its commitment to employees, Methodist Health System announces the addition of an executive-level position to focus exclusively on their health and well-being. Melanie Algermissen has joined Methodist as the assistant vice president of wellness to lead the System’s efforts. Methodist is one of only a few health systems in North Texas to have an executive leading the effort to improve employees’ health.
“We are committed to becoming one of the healthiest health systems in America, so we’ve created a vibrant wellness culture through the company’s Live Well Shine Bright employee wellness program,” says Stephen L. Mansfield, PhD, FACHE, president and CEO, Methodist Health System. “Our mission is to improve and save lives, including the lives of our employees.”
Algermissen hopes that through Methodist's wellness program called Live Well, Shine Bright, staff members will become empowered to take control of their health, so that they can be there for their families, patients and co-workers.
“Wellness in the workplace is the ideal time to educate employees and help them create health habits that may add more years to their lives,” Algermissen says. “But even more important, these healthy practices may add more life to their years.”
Algermissen earned a bachelor of science degree in kinesiology with a specialization in applied exercise physiology from Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas. Her previous position was with Cooper Corporate Solutions, A Cooper Aerobics Company, as wellness manager. There, she provided corporate wellness consulting and health risk reduction strategies to organizations around the country, as well as account management services and oversight of the Cooper Aerobics employee wellness initiative.
“As a newcomer to Methodist, I feel very welcomed and accepted,” said Algermissen. “The culture is very supportive and enthusiastic. My job is to make sure it’s well.”
