Methodist Dallas Ranks in Top 10 U.S. News & World Report DFW Hospitals

Methodist Dallas Medical Center has been ranked in the top 10 medical facilities in the Dallas-Fort Worth region according to U.S. News & World Report's first-ever Best Hospitals metro area rankings, available online at www.usnews.com/hospitals.

The new rankings recognize 622 hospitals in or near major cities with a record of high performance in key medical specialties. Methodist Dallas Medical Center met stringent benchmarks such as a minimum number of certain types of serious cases, and was recognized for high performance in specialties including kidney disorders and urology.

"Our commitment to quality, compassionate health care, and outstanding patient satisfaction is reflected in this recognition," says Methodist Health System Executive Vice President and Chief Operations Officer Pamela Stoyanoff, who is also interim president of the Methodist Dallas campus.  "We are honored by this achievement and pledge the continuation of our nearly century-long mission to improve and save lives."

U.S. News created the Best Hospitals more than 20 years ago to identify hospitals exceptionally skilled in handling the most difficult cases, such as brain tumors typically considered inoperable and delicate pancreatic procedures.

The new metro area rankings are relevant to a much wider range of health care consumers. Hospitals had to perform well in 16 varied specialties, including cancer and heart disease treatment, and respiratory disorders. Patients and their families will have a far better chance of finding a U.S. News-ranked hospital in their health insurance network and might not have to travel far to get care at a high-performing hospital.

To be ranked in its metro area, a hospital had to score in the top 25 percent among its peers in at least one of 16 medical specialties. U.S. News ranked hospitals within all 52 U.S. metro areas with populations of 1 million or more, using existing data from 2010-11 Best Hospitals surveys.

"All of these hospitals provide first-rate care for the majority of patients, even those with serious conditions or who need demanding procedures," says Health Rankings Editor Avery Comarow. "The new Best Hospitals metro rankings can tell you which hospitals are worth considering for most medical problems if you live in or near a major metro area."
